🌍 Divine Laws in the Universe — Sunan Allah
Introduction
The concept of Sunan Allah — the Divine Laws of Allah is one of the important concepts through which a believer can understand life, history, human societies, and the natural world.
Allah has created the universe according to wisdom, order, balance, and laws. These laws operate by His will and permission.
Allah says:
“You will never find any change in the way of Allah, and you will never find any alteration in the way of Allah.”
Qur’an 35:43
This does not mean that Allah is incapable of changing the laws He established. Rather, it means that Allah has established an ordered system in creation, while remaining absolutely capable of doing whatever He wills.
1. The Law of Taking the Means
One of the greatest Divine Laws is that human beings are expected to take the necessary means to achieve their goals.
A farmer plants and waters his crops.
A student studies.
A sick person seeks treatment.
A society builds institutions and works for improvement.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Be keen on what benefits you, seek help from Allah, and do not give up.”
Narrated by Muslim.
This teaches an essential Islamic principle:
Take the means, while placing your ultimate trust in Allah.
Tawakkul does not mean abandoning work. It means working while knowing that the final outcome is in Allah's hands.
2. The Law of Change
Allah says:
“Indeed, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.”
Qur’an 13:11
This is one of the greatest principles concerning individual and social transformation.
If a person wants to improve his life, he should begin with what he can change within himself:
faith;
knowledge;
character;
discipline;
work;
relationships;
responsibility.
The same principle applies to societies.
A society cannot expect lasting improvement while preserving the causes of its corruption.
3. The Law of Trial and Testing
Life is a test.
Allah says:
“He is the One who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deeds.”
Qur’an 67:2
Allah also says:
“We will certainly test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth, lives, and fruits. And give good news to those who patiently endure.”
Qur’an 2:155
Trials may take many forms:
poverty;
illness;
fear;
loss;
loneliness;
financial difficulty;
and sometimes even wealth, health and power.
The important question is not merely what happens to us, but how we respond to what happens.
Patience, faith, repentance, prayer and righteous action transform the believer's relationship with hardship.
4. The Law of Patience and Relief
Allah says:
“So surely with hardship comes ease. Surely with hardship comes ease.”
Qur’an 94:5–6
The stories of the prophets illustrate this Divine pattern.
Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) عليه السلام experienced:
the well → slavery → imprisonment → authority and honor.
Prophet Musa (Moses) عليه السلام reached a moment when his people believed they were trapped between the sea and Pharaoh's army.
He said:
“Never! My Lord is certainly with me; He will guide me.”
Qur’an 26:62
The lesson is profound:
A difficult moment is not necessarily the final chapter of a person's story.
5. The Law of Victory and Preparation
Allah says:
“O believers! If you stand up for Allah, He will help you and make your feet firm.”
Qur’an 47:7
The Qur'an also commands preparation:
“Prepare against them whatever you are able of power.”
Qur’an 8:60
Victory therefore involves spiritual and practical causes:
faith;
patience;
discipline;
unity;
preparation;
knowledge;
organization;
perseverance.
Islam does not teach people to sit and wait for miracles while abandoning the means available to them.
6. The Law of Consequences
The Qur'an teaches that actions have consequences.
The events of the Battle of Uhud provide an important example.
Allah says:
“Until when you faltered, disputed about the order, and disobeyed after He had shown you what you liked.”
Qur’an 3:152
The lesson is that even a righteous community can suffer consequences when important causes of weakness appear within it.
The Qur'an transforms historical events into lessons.
7. The Law of Alternation of Power
Allah says:
“And these days We alternate among people.”
Qur’an 3:140
No individual, nation or civilization should assume that its strength will last forever.
Power changes.
Generations change.
Political systems change.
Civilizations rise and decline.
Therefore:
When you have power, be just.
When you have wealth, be grateful.
When you are weak, remain patient and continue working.
8. The Law of Gratitude and Blessings
Allah says:
“If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more.”
Qur’an 14:7
Gratitude is more than simply saying Alhamdulillah.
True gratitude includes:
recognizing the blessing;
thanking Allah for it;
using the blessing properly.
Knowledge is a blessing: its gratitude is teaching.
Wealth is a blessing: its gratitude includes generosity.
Health is a blessing: its gratitude includes using one's strength for beneficial work.
Time is a blessing: its gratitude includes spending it wisely.
9. The Law of the Loss of Blessings
Allah says:
“That is because Allah would never change a blessing He had bestowed on a people until they change what is within themselves.”
Qur’an 8:53
This is an important warning.
Blessings require responsibility.
Corruption, injustice, ingratitude and abuse of power can contribute to the loss of blessings.
However, we should not simplistically interpret every personal disaster as a direct punishment from Allah. A hardship may also be a test, a means of purification, a raising of one's rank, or the natural consequence of particular causes.
10. The Law of Justice and the Consequences of Injustice
Allah says:
“Do not think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do.”
Qur’an 14:42
And the Prophet ﷺ said:
“O My servants, I have forbidden injustice for Myself and made it forbidden among you, so do not wrong one another.”
Narrated by Muslim.
A wrongdoer may appear powerful for a period of time, but temporary success is not proof of divine approval.
The Qur'an repeatedly warns against injustice and oppression.
11. The Law of Respite
Sometimes people see a wrongdoer enjoying wealth and power and wonder why punishment has not come.
Allah says:
“Do not let those who disbelieve think that Our delaying of their punishment is better for them. We only delay it so they may increase in sin.”
Qur’an 3:178
And the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Allah gives respite to the oppressor, but when He takes him, He does not let him escape.”
Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
Thus:
Delay does not necessarily mean approval.
It may be an opportunity for repentance—or a period of respite before accountability.
12. The Law of Social Protection and دفع الفساد
Allah says:
“If Allah did not repel some people by means of others, the earth would certainly become corrupt.”
Qur’an 2:251
This points to the importance of responsible people standing against injustice and corruption through legitimate, wise and constructive means.
A healthy society needs:
justice;
cooperation;
responsibility;
protection of rights;
education;
reform.
13. The Law of Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness
Repentance is one of the greatest doors of hope.
Allah tells us about Prophet Nuh (Noah)
“Ask your Lord for forgiveness—surely He is All-Forgiving. He will shower you with abundant rain, give you an increase in wealth and children, and provide you with gardens and rivers.”
Qur’an 71:10–12
True istighfar is not merely repeating words. It involves returning to Allah, abandoning persistent wrongdoing, regretting sins and seeking righteousness.
14. The Divine Laws in Nature
The Divine Laws are not limited to human societies.
The natural world also displays remarkable order:
the movement of celestial bodies;
the water cycle;
plant growth;
the succession of day and night;
the development of living creatures;
the balance of ecosystems.
Allah says:
“And We sent down water from the sky in due measure, then We caused it to settle in the earth.”
Qur’an 23:18
And:
“And the sun travels on to its fixed course. That is the design of the Almighty, All-Knowing.”
Qur’an 36:38
The regularity of creation allows human beings to observe, study and discover patterns in the world.
15. Ibn Khaldun and the Laws of Civilization
The great North African scholar ابن خلدون devoted substantial attention to the laws governing human civilization.
His famous Muqaddimah examined society, economics, political authority, group solidarity (asabiyyah), and the rise and decline of dynasties. Modern academic references commonly describe his project as an attempt to identify regular patterns in historical and social change. (Google Livres)
One of his major ideas was that strong social cohesion can contribute to the rise of political power, while excessive luxury, internal division and loss of cohesion can contribute to decline. (Schumacher Center for a New Economics)
This makes the Muqaddimah particularly valuable when studying historical and social causes, while the Qur'an remains the primary source for the Islamic concept of Divine guidance and Divine laws.
📚 Important Classical Sources
For deeper study, several major works are especially useful:
The Qur'an
The fundamental source for understanding Divine laws.
Particularly relevant passages include:
Qur'an 13:11 — change;
Qur'an 35:43 — Divine laws;
Qur'an 3:140 — alternation of power;
Qur'an 8:53 — blessings and change;
Qur'an 94:5–6 — hardship and ease;
Qur'an 71:10–12 — repentance and forgiveness.
Tafsir al-Tabari
Tafsir al-Tabari is one of the great early works of Qur'anic interpretation.
Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Tafsir Ibn Kathir is particularly useful for connecting Qur'anic verses with Prophetic traditions and statements of early scholars.
The Muqaddimah
The Muqaddimah is especially valuable for examining historical and social patterns. Its significance as a study of civilization and historical change is widely recognized. (Google Livres)
🌿 Practical Lessons for the Believer
Understanding the Divine Laws should transform our behavior.
Instead of despair, we search for the causes of relief.
Instead of laziness, we take the means.
Instead of arrogance during prosperity, we practice gratitude.
Instead of surrendering to corruption, we begin with reform.
Instead of fearing the future excessively, we trust Allah while doing what is within our ability.
The believer therefore combines:
Faith + Knowledge + Action + Patience + Tawakkul
That is one of the most beautiful ways of understanding the relationship between divine decree and human responsibility.
🌟 Conclusion
The study of Allah's Divine Laws teaches us that the universe is not chaotic or meaningless.
There are patterns in creation, consequences in human actions, lessons in history and signs throughout nature.
But behind every cause stands Allah, the Creator of causes and effects.
The believer therefore does not worship the causes; he uses them while relying upon their Creator.
“And put your trust in Allah if you are truly believers.”
Qur’an 5:23
The deepest lesson is this:
Trust Allah completely, but never abandon the means He has placed within your reach.
Introduction
sa foi ;
ses connaissances ;
son comportement ;
son organisation ;
son travail ;
ses relations ;
son sens des responsabilités.
Coran, 67:2
Les épreuves peuvent prendre différentes formes :
pauvreté ;
maladie ;
peur ;
perte ;
difficultés financières ;
solitude ;
Joseph عليه السلام connut :
Coran, 8:60
La réussite nécessite donc :
la foi ;
la patience ;
la discipline ;
l'unité ;
la préparation ;
le savoir ;
l'organisation ;
la persévérance.
reconnaître le bienfait ;
remercier Allah ;
utiliser ce bienfait de manière correcte.
La connaissance se remercie par son enseignement.
La richesse par la générosité.
La santé par les bonnes œuvres.
Le temps par son utilisation utile.
Coran, 2:251
Une société saine a besoin de :
justice ;
coopération ;
responsabilité ;
protection des droits ;
connaissance ;
réforme.
le mouvement des astres ;
le cycle de l'eau ;
la croissance des plantes ;
l'alternance du jour et de la nuit ;
les étapes de la vie ;

🌿 Conclusion
🇬🇧 Trust Allah, take the means, work with patience, and leave the final outcome to Him.
